Someone Else’s Castoff is My Treasure

The saying “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” resonates the difference in things that delight the sight of each individual. Naturally, it is a matter of personal taste and style to find beauty in what another person has passed on as junk. I live in this world of thriftopia and often someone else’s castoff ends up being my treasure. I am a thrifter-aholic; I have a passion for second-hand goods. I get very excited and optimistic on any thrifting adventure about finding something my eyes perceive as beautiful and my heart thinks is special.

The creation of this blog as a medium to display thrifted things I find beautiful has been a fulfillment of being on the right path. This is one of many steps to accomplishing what my heart truly desires. The Alchemist said, “Wherever your heart is, that is where you’ll find your treasure.” I know what my heart wants, I started on a gravel road infested with potholes and now it is gradually being change into a smooth ride.

I think thrift and vintage stores are great places to shop for treasures since the rewards are unexpected and sometimes the experiences can be wonderful. Imagined my surprise when I visited a vintage store recently and stumbled on this colorful psychedelic prints Pucci-style inspired shirtdress. Emilio Pucci –the original graphic prints designer who inspires graphic prints and pastel colors. I chose it simply based on its vivid colors and unique patterns. It is an original vintage from the late sixties and early seventies by “The Suburbia (USA) Designer Collection.”

This unique one-piece dress is above the knee and features three-quarter sleeves with oxford shirt collar, and white front-button down closure. The brilliant pastels colors are white, aqua blue, purple, turquoise, lime and goldish green. The pattern arrangement shapes includes diamond, square, triangle, waves and swirls, each uniquely layered and intricately formed to fit like a puzzle, notice the detailed geometric trim along the cuffs, waistline, and hemline. There is no size in the dress, but after careful examination and measurements, it is a size 4, soft polyester, and is in very good condition.

“When a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream”  because “Everything has been written by the same hand.” ~ The Alchemist
